Dunsley Hall Hotel has a rich and fascinating history that dates back to the 1300's.
Originally owned from 1304 by Richard Throckmorton, who sold it to Richard De Dunsley. It was passed back to the Throckmorton family. In the 15th century, it belonged to members of the Everdon family, lords of the manor of Orton in Wombourne, but in 1532 passed to William Whorwood, who subsequently bought by the manor of Kinver. In 1635 it was granted to William Carter, whose daughter Catherine and her son John Hamerton sold to Philip Foley in 1709. Dunsley Hall remained part of the Foleys' Prestwood estate until sold by a descendant in 1918. It was then purchased by Alfred Marsh. According to local legend, on the evening of December 18, 1812, farmer Benjamin Robins of Dunsley Hall, was returning home from Stourbridge Market when he was shot in the back and robbed about half a mile from his home.
Mr Robbins, aged 57, struggled home and died 10 days later on December 28 before being buried at Enville Church on January 1, 1813. The mansion was purchased in 2005 by Kinver family Terrie and Wilf Beardsmore, and son Simon. They spent 12 months turning the landmark Dunsley Hall into Dunsley Hall Hotel - an exclusive boutique hotel. It has now been restored to its former glory, with much of the original architecture and features preserved. Staffordshire's hidden gem.
